Yuschenko not ashamed of results of his presidency
The president was speaking at a meeting with the faculty and students of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University on Friday.
"I am not ashamed for four years of my presidency," Yuschenko said.
He reminded about Ukraine's achievements in economy over the four years preceding the world economic turmoil.
At the same time, the head of state said that Ukraine incurred great losses over the last year and that it will take two or three years to return to the level of 2008.
He again blamed the government of Premier Yulia Tymoshenko for a slowdown of Ukraine's economic growth.
Yuschenko also said that he sees the European choice of Ukraine as a fundamental policy.
"I do not care whether the voters will support me or not. As president I should pursue the policies which meet Ukraine's national interests," the president said.
Any president defending Ukraine's democracy and independence will not be adequately perceived by the neighboring countries, Yuschenko said.
